United States: According to Jessup Maryland Fire Department, forty-six individuals were admitted to the hospital after firefighters were informed of several cases of persons affected with food poisoning.
Firefighters and paramedics from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the scene on Monday in Jessup, a Maryland town about 15 miles southwest of Baltimore, the report from Howard County Fire and Rescue Services shows.
Victims in stable conditions
The victims were assessed by medics and admitted to various hospitals in separate counties but in stable condition after consuming the said meal in the statement of the department.
According to Fox 5 DC, the victims were believed to have ingested food from NAFCO Wholesale Seafood Distributor.
The Howard County Health Department mentioned in their Facebook post, “At this time, we are not aware of any risk of further illnesses connected to this incident,” USA Today reported.
What did the victims consume?
The poisonings were said to have resulted from food bought from an outside distributor and brought into the facility by an unknown employee, the Howard County Health Department said but did not identify what food the employee brought in.
The department does not know who got food poisoning and when the food was consumed, according to the spokeswoman, Lisa de Hernández.
Victims’ symptoms
It is not yet revealed what symptoms the officials took the victims to the hospital.
Nonetheless, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that the signs of food poisoning differ depending on the severity of the situation.
The most common symptoms of food poisoning include, as per the agency:
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fever
However, those with severe poisoning could face:
- Diarrhea with blood
- Diarrhea with a duration exceeding 3 days
- A high fever with temperatures above one hundred and two degrees
- Severe vomiting to the point they can no longer take any fluids
- Dehydration sign which includes not urinating, dry throat and mouth, dizziness when standing
